Three hours of screentime give us four decades of a-changin' Texan life, as cattle baron Rock Hudson and rancher-turned-oil-magnate James Dean vie for the love of a feisty Liz Taylor. A bloated but well-acted all-American epic, effective in parts but with a few too many self-important musings on materialism and the American Dream.
