A bubbly musical remake of the irrepressible 1940 Katharine Hepburn classic The Philadelphia Story. This time Grace Kelly gets to play the beautiful yet snooty Tracy Lord, the wealthy socialite being wooed by ex-husband Bing Crosby (in the Cary Grant role) on the eve of her wedding to another man. Will true love overcome the odds? Frank Sinatra steps into James Stewart’s shoes as the reporter sent to cover the wedding without her knowledge, only to find himself falling for her in turn. Louis Armstrong, meanwhile, provides the narration and helps along the film’s Oscar®-nominated tunes. This was the luminous Kelly’s final film before retiring from acting to become Princess Grace of Monaco, and it’s a fitting send-off that brings together three of Hollywood’s brightest talents.
